The Institute of Medicine suggests drinking 12.5-glasses of water for men and 9-glasses of water for women per day to properly maintain hydration level. Even the slightest of decrease, which you may not even notice or feel thirsty, can lead to distraction.

 

2. Incorporate More Physical Activity in Your Daily Routine

We live in a world of convenience, where we no longer climb stairs because of elevators and we don’t walk long distances because of cars, trains, and buses. People used to get physical exercise from these two seemingly normal day-to-day activities. Nowadays, people have to consciously set aside time to get enough physical exercise.

When you perform a physical activity, it triggers certain learning/memory-related chemical secretion which enables the brain to concentrate better. Physical activity improves the attention span and helps cognition as well. So, if you are thinking of coffee or tea, think again. Physical activity is way better than caffeine.

 

3. Avoid Distractions

4. Schedule and Plan for the Day 

Without scheduling, your mind can’t concentrate on a given task because it keeps recalling other responsibilities and tasks that you need to do. Whenever we have to complete different tasks in a day, our mind keeps reminding us about all the other things we haven’t done yet. This perpetual repetition in our minds causes us to be distracted inwardly. To pay attention to the task at hand, it is important to properly plan and schedule so that at a given timeslot, you just focus on one task without worrying about what happens to other tasks.

 

5. Avoid Multi-tasking

If you try multi-tasking then the above methods about how to pay attention may not generate positive results.  Multi-tasking, most of the times, triggers tension.
