Made to scale means that a remote control car is a scaled down version of a life-sized car. It has all the same proportions of a full-sized vehicle, but made super fun and fast. A 1:8 ratio means the RC car is 8x smaller than the real vehicle, 1:10 is 10x smaller, 1:12 is 12x smaller, and so on.

Our 1:12 Onyx RC hobby car is 12x smaller than a life-size car. That means this bad boy’s top speed of 23 MPH is comparable to a life-size car reaching 270 MPH.

The simpler tech in a brushed motor is easy to maintain and less expensive. As the motor uses physical contact to create power, debris like dust and dirt needs to be regularly cleaned out to keep it in optimal condition.

Best for: beginners and up.

Advanced tech makes a brushless motor run more efficiently, but is more expensive. This efficiency makes the RC cars drive faster for longer. Plus, no brushes mean less internal cleaning.

Best for: experienced racers.
